Overview

Discover Leaf & Bean Cafe Morningside Edinburgh, a cosy neighbourhood café at 12-14 Comiston Rd, Edinburgh EH10 5QE, United Kingdom. Set in one of Edinburgh’s most characterful residential districts, this independent café is the sort of place that works equally well for a relaxed breakfast, a casual lunch, or coffee and cake with friends. From a food blogger’s perspective, its strongest qualities are its approachable Scottish-British café menu, tempting baked goods, quality coffee, and comfortable community atmosphere.

The menu focuses on breakfast, brunch, and light lunch favourites rather than elaborate restaurant cooking. Expect soups, sandwiches, paninis, ciabattas, pastries, cakes, sausage rolls, scrambled eggs, and a broad selection of coffees and other hot drinks. Vegetarian and vegan-friendly choices are available, making Leaf & Bean Cafe Morningside Edinburgh an accommodating option for mixed groups. Typical spending is relatively accessible at around £1-£10 per person, although several customers note that certain sandwiches, cakes, and drinks can feel expensive compared with nearby cafés.

One standout is the Toffee Apple Cake, a moist, comforting bake that pairs naturally with the café’s coffee selection. A previous customer found the cake enjoyable and described the accompanying latte as “one of the best I have ever had.” Another worthwhile choice is the Breakfast Sausage Roll, featuring fresh bread and square sausage for a distinctly Scottish start to the day. For lunch, the Tuna Melt Ciabatta and chicken tikka mozzarella variation have also earned positive comments for their filling portions and satisfying combination of warm bread, melted cheese, and savoury fillings.

Atmosphere is an important part of Leaf & Bean Cafe Morningside Edinburgh in Edinburgh. The interior feels relaxed, informal, and welcoming rather than overly polished, with large windows bringing natural light into the dining space. Customers use the café for everything from family catch-ups to laptop work, and reviews regularly mention friendly staff and an easygoing neighbourhood vibe. One recent visitor said they stayed until closing without feeling rushed, which speaks well of the café’s relaxed hospitality.

Amenities add practical appeal. Outdoor seating is available when Edinburgh weather allows, alongside takeaway service, Wi-Fi, wheelchair accessibility, highchairs, parking nearby, and booking options. The café has also been described as dog-friendly, an especially useful touch for customers exploring Morningside with their pets.

The experience is not without limitations. Some reviews mention premium pricing, occasional service delays, and inconsistent cleanliness during particular visits. Still, positive feedback about the coffee, baked goods, friendly service, and relaxed setting explains why the café continues to attract regulars.

For anyone exploring the best restaurants in Edinburgh for casual local dining experiences, Leaf & Bean Cafe Morningside Edinburgh is particularly appealing for coffee, brunch, fresh cakes, and an unhurried neighbourhood atmosphere. Stop by after exploring Morningside and settle in for a warm drink, a hearty ciabatta, and a sweet treat in one of Edinburgh’s welcoming local cafés.

These negative reviews are bizarre. I live locally and go here all the time. The staff are absolutely lovely, the cafe is great, with its fabulous wooden tables. The dark chocolate mocha is genuinely the best I've ever had (and they are so obliging they'll do half milk chocolate and half dark, which I promise is the stuff of fantasy). I only looked because I'm thinking of going tomorrow and I wanted to check the menu. I couldn't believe my eyes at these low reviews. I promise: it's a lovely local cafe with fabulous coffee and nice food. It has fun offers where it puts someone's name in the window and they get a free drink (still waiting for my name to appear but I check whenever I pass!). It's child friendly, dog friendly, and awesome.

Not sure why this cafe is having 1 star ratings that look like spammed or fake but this is our own experience: The staffs are very friendly and welcoming. The place is relaxing, spacious, and I can see other customers with or without kids actually enjoying the place. I also see some customers busy with their laptops and are taking their time, peacefully minding their own business while in this place. We tried tuna melt ciabatta and chicken tikka mozzarella ciabatta, cappuccino and dirty chai latte for brunch. In my own opinion, 1 serving is probably good for two people. So pricing is reasonable for the great plate! I hope the owner and the staffs will read this review, don’t be affected by the said seem to be fake 1 star reviews, and keep up the good work! Thank you! ⭐

Don’t trust the reviews, this cafe is lovely! I went today with my 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters and the staff were very patient and the food was delicious! Thank you and look forward to returning.

Had a great bite to eat and a coffee here on a brief visit to Edinburgh. The sandwich was fresh and lovely, the soup was great too. Even the cappuccino came with actual flakes of chocolate rather than the fake dust you get at other places. The staff are great too! Would recommend!

Lovely cafe!! Don’t trust the negative reviews - it’s entitled students taking advantage and trying to bring the place down! Definitely recommend.

I had a great time here with some lovely coffee and bacon pancakes. Tip: I can see an usual number of 1 star reviews and can confirm many of them seem wrong (the toilet door is not see through!) and prepositions (I don't believe they fly kicked a granny across the room!) My four star review is honest and based on one visit. The cafe is warm and spacious. There's plenty of room between tables and some have power nearby for laptops. The coffee is fairly priced and food similar. I paid £7.50 for bacon and maple syrup pancakes (X2) which were tasty but not boutique speciality. The coffee came with a delicious cube of fudge and was high quality. I can see Leaf and Bean is a local favourite, as it's midmorning and plenty of people are here. It's dog friendly too. Staff are great, quick, friendly and don't seem stressed. The toilet is clean and easy access. I was given all the time I needed to enjoy my food and drink. I'm not in Morningside often but not only would I come back here again, I think it's a good oasis of calm, space and amenities
